Interesting thread following through from Oct to June I usually sow in spring but might just try overwintering this year. I really prefer green seeded varieties ( converted OH with these, didn't like the grey ones) does anybody know a green seeded variety for overwintering?

Different plants attract different pests, my chillis were attacked by Red Spider Mite, but didin't bother my cucumbers or toms.

Last year i came back off holiday to find all my cabbages were net curtains, didnt get to try one.

With summer fruiting varieties, you cut down and remove the canes that have just finished fruiting, which will be quite shortly for me. By that stage they will be scrawny and woody and quite unlike the lush new growth (suckers) that will become next year's canes. If you want to lift and divide...

I'm not sure what you mean Natalie, 5' tall is a good thing I would say, unless they are weak and straggly?

Hi Steve Its what it says on the tin.. a raised bed made from a ladder that resembles something close to a hammock :wink: Its just a free draining bed of compost, but tomatoes seem to really enjoy growing in it. There`s a few "before" pics, in the thread linked below. I`m not sure if or how...

I prefer to start picking anything as soon as ready/as we have any use for. It's always nice to have a bit of fresh. For instance, green garlic is a pleasant change from mature. I would say, if you have a recipe with shallots in, then pull and use just what you need for that recipe.

I might be that its my first year on the plot and i havent put any fertilizer down.Next year i will prepare a "trench" with all the food they could want.Thanks for sharing your experience.

I think it's a matter of taste...The ones I've chopped off are a bit small still - there're no curl in them. The part above the bulb looks and tastes a bit garlic chive-y, although a bit tough raw. Below the bulb it's crisp but quite powerful! I'm intending to chop a few more tonight,...

Lets hope there will be a few more oddities before the season is finished!

decided to unpot my garlic despite rust as they are well grown, also VERY pungent you can smell as you walk past, have some in a raised bed,but they are not so advanced will leave for later. :gnthb:

I use old tiles or pieces of timber to raise them off the ground when the fruits are forming (Saves getting straw in)They will really appreciate being given loads of water, you can't over-water them if they are in the soil.

Hmm... So a spray of round up closely done and shielding the veg sounds like the best option.I'll attempt that approach and be really careful. I'll dig up the spuds along the hedge line to make the gap a little bigger before i spray.Thank you for all your help.
