Ahhh, OK I see. And bolting is bad because it takes energy away from the growing onion and it gets that green centre in the onion that makes it rot from the inside out?! Madness. Who thought a flower could be so undesired lol. Thanks HarryS! BTW I think we have lost silu to Wilkos online lol.

I just got that cauliflower myself, sowing it today in the greenhouse to plant out when its big enough. I'm going to see how it goes, if it gets a little cold for it i'll just bring it back in the greenhouse. If that doesnt work, well I know better for next year!

You don't have to wait for the halms to die back Sargan, after 12 weeks I'd say they will be ready. You can just try one root to begin with, if still too small leave for another week or two.

Thank you! I think I planted them out in mid May, and the soil had been warmed under a cloche for the previous week or so, so they got off to a good start.Ahh, I've been feeding them since they set fruit - so maybe I started them on the hard stuff too early? They didn't have a lot of space...

My mangetout are finished now - unless someone tells me there come back some how. I did sow some more ten days ago which have germinated. So I simply pull them out and put in the compost bin?Snaps and peas are looking a tad better - not what I expected though. Was told they were easy to grow.

I think any types of salad/leaf vegetables will grow fine, they don't need much sun anyway. Fruit I'm not so sure about, since they usually need full sun to grow.

Garage no windows or garden are my options. My plastic grow homes weren't going to stay out over winter.Errrrrrm. May have to rethink.Thank you.

I also store mine strung up in the garage but my father used to string them up and hang them from a washing line post and they used to keep into the New Year. That was in Lincolnshire. You could pickle the shallots if you like that sort of things.

i wouldn't bother. You can grow them all year round. Just sow them every couple of weeksYou can buy a packet of 'White Lisbon' seeds for about 40p from Wilko
