Only a bit of a Fuchsia grower myself but they are plants, and most plants do things in very similar ways. Fuschias like a lot of plants want to be bushes, so training is the key. Yes the top unripe wood may well die, but new shoots will come from lower down, you just select a strong growing...

They will vary considerably in their vigour, spread and flowering WO. Next summer you will prob be able to identify them Here they range from 2.5 metres wide (rozanne and Ann Folkhard) to small mounds (black beauty) :rasp:

Choisya is one of my favourite shrubs. I would prune it back now ( early autumn ) . They are really tough , so you can cut it back hard . Remove any damaged branches and crossing growth until it is the size / shape you want .

OK @Redwing, I think it's fixed. I hadn't realised that the images were hosted on THIS site and linked through. Although they still exist it wasn't working for some reason so I've uploaded them to wordpress and all looks ok now

The "secret" with pruning hollies is to do it regularly. Then bare wood is never a problem. I will be pruning ......trimming....a very large Golden King soon and the effect will simply be to help it look neat. Often people suggest pruning in spring to avoid the "bare" look however hollies...
