I almost missed it.When i took out all of last yrs bulbs for the grass i had forgotten about this in one corner as it didn`t show through until after everything else was out and in buckets.I know there was an apple blossom underneath it but i don`t know if that comes back.

Thanks, David for your input.There is nothing humid about Algarve, we are very dry (even in rain season) so, unfortunately, I have now decided NOT to buy it ... other than the fact t'other half thought it might take over the place!

Will be driving past in a couple of weeks then. Give us a waye!

Hmmmmmmm, interesting. I've got some astrantia seeds, so perhaps I'll put them into the fridge for a while then, and plant them into pots in July. I do like them, and have a clump of Roma that is doing well (bought from Wisley).

I'll let you know, pip, if these "specialists" come back to me with an ID and maybe I can send you a cutting for Mrs pip.It really is an unusual one, I can't find it on any sites so I'm shocked I've found it twice here. The edging colour is quite vibrant ... I haven't photographed it well.

Wow! That is really cool :D You have done a good job and it looks really sturdy - much better than some of the shop ones! I have just painted my shed in that colour....!The cherry pruning is sweet - do you have some time to come and do my front hedge? Last time I pruned it I ended up...

A shrub that will do well is Aucuba Japonica which seems to grow well anywhere. Also try the BBC plantfinder site. Just put in the conditions etc and it will come up with a selection of plants that will grow there.http://www.bbc.co.uk/gardening/plants/plant_finder/index.shtml

Funny things Tulips. I heard somewhere that the stripy colouring is in fact caused by a virus, something like fireblight or similar name, which was actively encouraged by the Dutch Tulip breeders. This means that the colours are often unstable and can change from flower to flower. I'm sure...

I'm not very well up on tree peonies, but,if its a grafted plant it should flower pretty quickly, thats if they still graft them. If its a seedling it might take a bit longer but I would guess that after three years it should be getting around to it now. Is it in full sun or at least some sun?

Very interesting - bf and I have kept saying we must check out what tadpoles eat - so now we know!
