If you don't want to wait you could dig out the damaged areas and use new soil and a compost mix, then re-seed. It's late in the season though and seed is very slow to germinate now as it needs a minimum temperature of 12C. Overnight temperatures are also down to single figures which won't help....

White pots have been found to be cooler in summer mthan other colours, this reduces stress. There are also air pots with numerous holes in them that cause the roots to self prune as they grow through the holes resulting in a dense root system with no spiralling.

That's a good solution I do it that way with the large amount I have in the garden.
