Hi cazway. I had a lovely labrador who devoured plants like biscuits! The only ones she didn't fancy were,a Berberis and a Holly

Not sure how long ago you planted them. If recently, most plants check when potted. If not, I would cut down on the watering.

The ants themselves wont do any harm, they may be just interested in the nectar in the flowers, or they could indicate green fly. If the leaf loss is just older leaves, then I wouldn't worry too much, some leaves are lost from time to time. pete

Its to do with removing the skins immediately or leaving them in for an amount of time (black grapes)

Thanks for the tip, I need it mainly for spraying an area of ferns not too far from the tap so it shouldn't get too extended but beats keep pumping the spray gun

Hi, thanks for the replies... I bought the sunflower when it had 4 flowers on about 3 weeks ago, the flowers died a couple of days ago but it has bew buds underneath the top set of leaves, so I just assumed I had to cut the old ones off - and did!!

this time i will try splitting them i never thought of that probably :( because they are slap in the middle of a lawned area

Hi Use Grazon 90 if you can get it. You may have to get some off a farmer friend but it the killer for nettles, much better than Roundup

Alan, sods law means that the plants in your nice decorative baskets/pouches, that your neighbours are supposed to look on in envy will always be the ones that will get eaten by caterpillars, covered in blackfly, suffer from mildew etc etc :rolleyes: Time to try something else in the pouches?
