Try.... Iris foetidissima (evergreen, orange seeds)- periwinkle (vinca)- variegated sorts, pretty blue flowers- spotted/variegated laurel (aucuba japonica) - can also have berrieseleagnus - maculata or "Gilt Edge"epimediums.... oh, and euonymus "Emerald Gaity"euphorbia...

Fuschias are also quite useful in pots with some of Peter's reccomendations. I also use a mix of Perennial grasses and Cannas with the more tender plants - do not appear to need as much water but a bit less colourful than Busy Lizzies..........

Excellent VistabileI tear the leaves off and put them into a bucket, cover with water and then wait for it to infuse? is that a word? when it's gone dark and smelly! pour a bit into my watering can top up with water and spray over flowers; then the splodge that's left I add to the compost bin...

Definitely cosmos, and the chocolate ones are a joy. I also like daisy-flowered things like argyranthemums, echinacea, osteospurmums etc. and also astrantia,dahlias and, of course, you can't do without geraniums in one form or another.

They are H. orientalis, and very lovely they are too.

Not tried that one, but regarding the flowering time, bear in mind Daves Garden is an American site and may have been sown in better a climate than ours and flowered earlier. Give it a try.

I have sent for hares Tail which looks a bit like your photo. Lets hope they all put on a good show. i was thinking of putting Cosmos Chocolate inbetween. i think I saw it once at a show.

Yes - thank you both. I've just sowed parsnip seed with a row of radish in between to remember where the parsnips are!! So I'll check about once a week - fingers x'd!

I reckon this one flowered because it has been left in the greenhouse all winter (got too big for indoors) and has had the extra light.Thanks for the advice PeterS. I'll make sure it doesn't stay in the greenhouse once the weather improves.
