Quick update. Decided to fork the soil this morning as when I got up and looked out there were dozens of small pools of standing water, which on closer inspection was caused by heavily compacted topsoil. Anyway, took around two hours, and it was back breaking, but I've now got less of a mud-bath...

I'm sure it would be fine if they're laid on a good compacted surfaceMy shed and Summerhouse are stood on plastic bases that are infilled with gravel,(there's a proper name for it but I've forgotten)great stuff and makes light work out doing bases

Clanless , you can't go wrong with a Dahlia named Yankee Doodle Dandee ! Flashy crazy plant names is actually a good way to choose plants. I reckon 90% of the time you won't be dissapointed !

Thanks all for the advice , I will grow the Dahlia Bishops children from the Tubers next year. I always find dahlia tubers a complicated item to plant . I am never sure what is doing what , it's like planting sets of bagpipes .

Didn't realise the seeds ripened in the new year...Most are dropping to the ground now,so I can't see them lasting the winter.I've collected some and will see if they will germinate next year. Otherwise it's going to be cuttings.Thanks for the answer...

It has several rows of leeks for company.

keep on the dry side and the coolest room but bright to keep them in will slow them down great looking cuttings
