Thanks everyone for advice. My pond is now sorted I returned the original pump and brought a all in one pump,filter and uv. As these are low voltage it came with a outside transformer so with help from a neighbour its now set up and water is gradually clearing.

Well that's the first third of it done: Planted some Sunflowers, Nasturtiums and a dark-leafed Weigela. Also built a little car port for the pram. The next third is going to be a real test, rock hard clay so I think a good soaking in advance is going to be needed.

I can't answer you Jangles ... I love them and can and have bought them here over the years but they last only a couple of months with me in the heat. Surely it must be easier in the UK?

Hello Brind - Now my VC is about 30 foot tall , and the opposite to yours . The leaves at the bottom seem to be smaller , in fact no leaves at all on the bottom 4 feet. They are one of my favourite plants so I hope yours is OK.
