    No don't do that, it will just multiply! It loves to be broken up, the worse thing you can do is to dig the patch before you spray as it fragments, and bits miss the spray.

    How do they make it pay?

    Oh yes I have done that. when I unpotted them they also had loads of little baby bulbs round them so they should make good full displays next year. I have fed them well too.
