Hi Colint I allways peg some polythene or plastic sheeting over mine it gives it a good start.

Has anyone used one of these hi-lo pulley type devices for their hanging baskets? http://www.ferndale-lodge.co.uk/pd_568277.htm I'm thinking of getting some as my brackets are quite high and I really struggle to water and dead head my baskets but wonder whether they work ok and are sturdy enough.

Looks fine to me. as Pete says they do get tatty with age.....wind etc. If it were me i would pull off the lower leaves - and tatty ones too.
