When I was a kid in Hamilton, we had a vine like WAco describes - roots outside, and the rest of it in the greenhouse. I don't the variety, but it was a black grape. Some years we had great grapes, other years not - but it definitely worked - and that's definitely in your neck of the woods!

I've still got some in flower - so could prolly send your a root, or when it sets seed some seed if you like.

I bought some very pretty pale yellow flowered heathers last year for my front window box. They didn't look garish or artificial but I think they must have been dyed as they gradually faded to white! I forgot to trim them and now they have tufts of green growth above the flowers!

I agree with Waco. Its worth trying to drain it as much as you can, but at the end of the day it is difficult to fight nature. The water could be coming in from a large catchment area. Better to grow appropriate plants. Bearded Irises like the damp, and also tolerate the dry in summer. I have...

I have loads of white daffs. Crocus and a small white flower which is just about to flower, its just getting big heavy stuff to you - if anyone is passing you are welcome to them. Oh and spanish blue bells.

Take these guys advice with regards to weed suppressing etc and then get a man in! Paying someone for their time to look after your garden is sometimes cost effective if yours is at a premium. 3 Hours every couple of weeks is usually enough to maintain the grass and seasonally snip a few shrubs...

Intersting thought Peter - especially as MR waco has just made ma a nursery flower bed, just wish it was dry enough to plant it up. I know the plants would not mind the wet, but my bones would!

There is a solid type insulation used in a lot of house building called Celotex it is a semi solid insularion with a reflective outer layer- this or similar would be a great material for use in this senario.
