Rather a late reply, but although Ilex Ferox Argentea is male, it isn't a good pollinator, and may well never do the job for your Golden King. Not too surprised about Gardener's World magazine...

I have sown sweet peas in my cold frame about two small trays about twenty plants put them in in early nonember and they fine about 6 to 8inch tall now and I have pinched the tops out hopefully...
