Good Gardening magazine for 1935
I love those old books. The suggestions of then would be totally ourageous now. One of my old books from the 1920's suggests using hemp as a boundary screen? Can't see that going down well these...
I love those old books. The suggestions of then would be totally ourageous now. One of my old books from the 1920's suggests using hemp as a boundary screen? Can't see that going down well these days, especially if I could keep it for very long with all the uni students around. :D

I actually got the structure wrong with my 'know it all' answer!! There are actually 2 amine groups one either side of the methyl group on toluene. But yes I wouldn't like to handle the stuff...

Citus Plant
I only once grew a lemon tree from pip and it did flower and fruit. The fruit rotted though. Like you said Liz, takes some aftercare. Anyone any tips? John

Of course, if you're really enthusiastic, just keep robbing the plant of its greenery and eventually the root will die off. You have to be pretty dogged though and it takes a while - some months...

Any advice for a newbie
The seedlings at the top could be chives if you say they are a herb,or onions,leek,or spring onion.When the seedlings are bigger I would prick them out into individual plastic vending cups like...

Yes Oktarine, I believe the gardeners on the large estates used to urinate in the rainwater tubs to help the garden. Don't know whether the gentry knew though!
