I grew some Marketmore in the greenhouse years ago and they just went mad, all leaf and very few cucumbers. I got the feeling that they prefer cooler conditions and really need to be outdoors.

A tedious, but successful, way to do it is a wallpaper scraper carefully levered under it. Any stubborn bits can usually be removed by a light tap on the handle of the scraper with a small hammer...

The table is a good idea and you could possibly drape some netting or an old net curtain over the table when not in use for extra protection.

Hi @MrsRake I think the problem is that the size of the root ball is normally matched with the size of the top growth - in other words, the amount of roots needed to get water to a big plant is bigger also. You probably need to look for something with fibrous roots so they don't heave the paving...
