Any idea what’s happening to my shrubs?
To be quite honest I can't see anything too bad. Hebe will always be brown inside, the berberis could be a bit dry or it could be insect damage not really possible to say .

What gardening gloves?
I always use scaffolders' gloves, from Quickfix. A scaffolder once gave me a pack of 10 pairs and I wouldn't be without them now...bramble proof, long lasting.
