Agree very much, it's a thrill to get the things sprouting but the plants are somewhat disappointing and crops might not be huge. Fun to try though!

Whenever I sow something directly into the soil, I mark the spot with a wooden stick. This is because I tend to forget which places are already occupied.

I've never had much luck with clematis, I did keep one for about 20 yrs but they are either rampant or too weak for me.

Least favourite is mowing the grass, it can grow like crazy this time of year. Favourite sitting on our lawn with Mrs H and a nice beer.

You are probably right Pete. The soil here is very shallow and being sandy loam is not the best. I've recently had fencing and gates installed across the drive and this below is what came from the holes. It looks more like cement than soil.
