I dont think a baffle would help much, tom roots tend to completely fill whatever space is available. I have 8 plants in a 200L chamber (no compost) and its almost completely full with roots, 25L of roots per 8ft plant

Personally I think it is more a sign of very humid conditions. Probably lots of leaf growth and not much air movement.And we all know what that can cause.
