New lawn soil advise
If the ground is very heavy as mine was, then a good pick axe would be better than a fork. This is just to get the heavy large stone out before the rotovator gets to work on the tilth of the soil....

What is this stuff growing in my "lawn"?
Dutch hoe type method would this work. Keep chopping off any new growth and hopefully the plant will weaken and die. May be worth a try.
