Who is laying the lawn? They can advise on the type, mostly it depends on how much shade the lawn gets - that might be the problem with the old one getting full of moss. The main thing with a new turf lawn is to water it a lot, your chalky soil will dry out very quickly so you need to keep...

So long as there isn't standing water, and your boots aren't squelching into the surface, I would have thought anytime, rain or shine, is good with a fork. If you were using a hollow-tined tool to aerate them then sticky soil, when wet, would probably be more inclined to clog it up

OK, I'll not worry about it too uch then, thanks. Yeah, right! My seeder is pathetic. It takes about 12 passes to deliver the requisite amount of seed. I did 6 passes on the Autumn sown and it looks OK, a bit thin, but with some Nitrogen it will be OK. I've done a 50% seeding rate before...

What type of soil do you have? If it's clay then I think the best thing you can do is start again. Rotovate and dig in something that will lighten the soil, compost maybe. If you can stop the children and dog from using it for some while, it may be better to grass seed it instead with a general...

hi there thanks for the reply the garden is not on a huge slope just slightly I have tried to include a photo and as for size I think it has an area of about 50 meters give or take I am just wanting it for the larger lawn hope this gives u a better idea of my plans.
