Never come across Selfheal before. I started my battle with it on my newly inherited lawns 3 weeks ago with Evergreen 4 in 1. This has sproadically killed some of it but its gets itself wormed underneath the thatch and lives on there. Probably would have been more effective to scarify first....

I think it's too large an area to be uneven food application and you would normally see a pattern occur if this was the case, but your lawn seems to have random patching. It could be chafer grub or leatherjacket damage. It's worth digging a patch up here and there to see if there are any grubs...

If I was in your position I would scarify well and overseed as it is a good time to do that right now. Then re-visit the problem next year after spring if it still exists.It is going to get wet and cold and working on gardens is not easy in late autumn.

Dead patches can be caused by several things. My simplest advice would be to cut the grass as low as possible.Then scarify, remove as much dead grass and thatch. Reseed and ad some good quality topsoil.Have a look at the following threads.

A lawn will drop over time so make sure the top soil is level with the path before laying the turf/seeding. This will ensure after settling the lawn is level with the path.
