Sign that your compost is a bit too wet. Trouble is Squash are very susceptible to almost all insecticides. I would change the compost you are using for a non-peat one and increase the draining ability with some added Perlite.

One trick that works is to make a canopy of polythene or other material over your tree - it is rain that spreads the spores of the fungus, if the leaves stay dry the disease doesn't seem to get hold.
