Pests, Diseases and Cures

I have French marigolds in pots, about 8 of them, just dotted around the greenhouse. They make the greenhouse look pretty and their pungent smell ( I dont dislike it ) helps deter aphids from the tomatoes they are guarding :skp:

I have some pansy's hanging in pots outdoors which have a sort of white covering on the leaves and also some outbreaks of little black spots which then turns the leaves yellow and they die. I would be grateful of any advice.Here are some pics:

You should be OK if it was a new bottle & so should the bees.... As Palustris says, changes have been made.. :wink:

Sorry, can I just ask, does biennial mean 'for two years'. Is there another word for once every two years - is that a relevant word to know? And, does 'biannual' exist, and presumably that means twice a year?

Hi Adredwood. up here in my area in scotland the (Cordyline Australis) in nearly all of the gardens and park areas have been wiped out, due to the very cold winter and hard frost. some of these Cordyline had been growing happily for many years. some of them have been reduced to mulch :( ...

Definetley Ladybird Larvae so leave well alone so that it can get on with it's job of noshing aphids:D

Well, you could always spray with Provado (or the Canadian equivalent). It's a systemic poison so it should kill anything munching on the plants.:wink:

Thanks again for the contributions, especially the detail on longevity of flowering from Peter S. I shall certainly try some of those as well as Geranium Anna Folkard. The previous owners of the house obviously loves Day Lilies/Paeonies and Hostas and had a garden full of Bluebells as well....

Timing as Alice says. This year I sowed mine (in a box) on 2nd April and planted them out today.I lifted the last half dozen of last year's leeks on 16th May this year and they were still in reasonably good condition though some were starting to sprout seed heads.

I think you just have to read the packet Kingfisher. Most weedkillers say children and pets only have to be excluded from the area until the spray has dried. I think they all say dangerous to aquatic life. Most of us manage to use weedkiller in a responsible way with minimal damage. You just...

I think i am going to order some antifungal stuff tonight, it is settling in quite nicely now. Thing is i have been using the Tarragon and Basil while cooking and want to continue to do so. Is the antifungal compound going to affect that? I suppose it's like anything just give it a good wash...
