The grass "appears" to be Reed Canary grass (Phalaris arundinacea) but I'm still not sure. Don't know if this is a phragmite or not. (Never did biology at school.) Here's the wikipedia entry for it.

Sorry i don't know, which you do want, but you don't want Lilies, they do not like moving water (you mentioned fountain)I would also suggest that unless you are having fish, in which case it will need filtration too, you need not have a fountain, and then you can have lilies, and lots of them.

Usually a domestic limescale remover involves just running the water through salt. Best bet is to look up water treatment suppliers in the Yellow Pages.

I should add to the above that the size is about 6 foot x 4 and about 2 foot at its deepest and I also have a parcel of barlay straw in there to help reduce algae..this is replaced once a year.

if you have a pond filter or pump, then you need to keep the blanketweed under control. if you pull it out by hand, then leave it in little heaps next to the pond so that little creatures can crawl back into the water. a day should be long enough.

Would you not agree that its a bit late for that, since most of it is built, and he has a high water table.

Each to their own, but to be frank I don't think plastic waterfalls ever look realistic. But if you're happy with what you've got; "look away now." So here's a suggestion. Have you any pool liner left? A much more realistic looking waterfall can be achieved by using a piece of pool liner....
