EU - Turkey deal

Yeah, got one of those down my road, god knows how many are living in a three bedroom house, the place is a tip, they park their cars in very strange places also.
Personally I dont think they should be driving on British roads.

I didn't realise the reason for our lack of housing in this country is down to our own strange quaint custom of wanting our own bit of roof.
At one time we were considered to be a fairly affluent country, but maybe in the future we need to follow the example set to us by the third world.

Agreed, they should have to go through our driving test. I'm enjoying motorway driving less and less. But then, to be fair, much of that is down to the general standards of driving from a good many of a certain generation

Problem derives originally from the Thatcher era - the right to buy. Tenants of Council houses were offered the chance to buy their homes at a massive discount and become home owners. Which in turn reduced the available housing stock.

Council's could not use the receipts from sales to build new Council houses.

I heard that the right to buy is being withdrawn.

Council housing stock in many parts of the country have been transferred to housing associations who are 'free' of central government restrictions - they can take out loans to spend on maintaining the housing stock - something which Council's can no longer afford.

We just don't have enough public housing - we haven't for some time - the waiting lists are enormous and getting longer with our open borders.
