What jobs are we doing in the garden today 2016

still raking out leaves.

 

Dug out the old compost bin, didn't do it last year on account of being mad.

Some lovely filth in there

Filled a dumpy bag to the brim with half rotted stuff from Sis's random pile, taking out the big logs, coconuts, plastic bags and tools etc.

Potted up the mini daffs and lungwort that were growing in the heap, then drove to Salisbury and back to see Willow's new (15th century) place

She'm planning a herb garden in the back

 

LOL. my mini daffs up and blooming. lots of snowdrops also. But yes, still the raking out, continues. But right today, rained, so inside for the never ending womens work.

 

Anything I pot up can be sold at the National Trust garden I work in, goes toward funding the rest of the garden

Made a start on the dreaded ground elder, why does it grow so close to other plants? Is there some kind of synergy? Moved a variegated Aconitum from under the plum tree, and planted a few bits of salvia glutinosa in some bare patches- my that is a survivor!

 

Congratulations on the baby news @CharlieBot ! I'm not surprised you're tired, you shouldn't be doing all that in a day!

 

Like Joolz, I've emptied and spring cleaned my greenhouse this afternoon. All I need now is a few more degrees in over night temperature then I can put it to more use.

 

Wonderful news!!! Congratulations to you and MrBot and hoping we don't have a scorcher of a summer so you don't melt in August. I had an August baby and it was a scorcher of a summer. In the final couple of weeks I ended up sleeping on a sun lounger in front of the open patio doors
So, now begs the question ... which tree are you going to plant when Baby Bot arrives to commemorate the birth (and to be used as a height chart comparison)?

Decided to make a start on the edging this afternoon, like you @shiney I'm doing it in short bursts. I got about 50 yards done around the veg plots, before the hand started to ache a bit.

The chickens were happy though, they were delighted to have several loads of grass edgings to scratch about in.

Didn't do anything earth shattering today, but, I have popped some sunflower seeds into the earth, re-potted polyanthus (which I won last year in a raffle) into a small, wide, shallow terracotta pot which now sits handsomely on the patio table; filled a tub with compost and planted a combo of seeds: sunflower, nasturtium and sweet pea (it won't break the bank if it doesn't work, but will bring great joy if it does ). Theory being the sweet peas will utilise the sunflower stalks as "stakes".

Ozzy "scarified" the lawn after a 'mishap' and the girls were out on slug patrol for the day.

I've now decided that the patio area should be given a "courtyard" look/approach, so I'm going to be on the look out for containers. Note to self: go to Boot Fairs!
