That's interesting @strongylodon. There were about a dozen together and it's the first time I've seen Brent Geese close up, they are attractive birds. I see what you mean about the collar and I'll look out for that in the future.

I would never have guessed the other bird was a Godwit, there are quite a few with similar plumage, build and beaks. Thanks for the identity.

 

@strongylodon I went through the pictures I'd binned and retrieved this one of the Brent Geese with collars showing.

 

@Zigs It looks like a parasitic Ichneumon Wasp.

If it eats anymore it could be the exploding Golfinch!!!

The other side of this lake was something swimming that didn't look duck like(just a dot in the distance) it wasn't it was a swimming Water Rail. Dodgy heavily cropped shot!

 

There is only one pair of Collared Doves around here @ARMANDII, and they fly off at the slightest movement, some folk are plagued by them but not here, do you have more than just those two?

 

Poor Pigeon. Were your cats responsible? Do cats attack bigger birds?

There are two collared doves in my garden at the moment, but numbers will increase to at least a dozen in the summer.

 

We usually have about four collared doves but have recently noticed the numbers creeping up, now we're up to seven.

 

They are not here in the winter, just arrive Feb/ March for baby making I guess

I don't think cats are a threat to hedgehogs. You are lucky to have the hedgehogs. They are in dire straits at the moment and if the decline continues its predicted they will become extinct by 2020 ( sorry, you probably already know that ). I have around 8 hogs who visit regularly ( some are hogs I've released, some not), plus whoever's in care. I have 3 feeding stations and 5 hog houses. The houses are always popular as they offer a cosy, safe place to sleep.

The black cat who has been my nemisis for the past 5 1/2 years does not attack the larger birds, it seems afraid of them. When I arrived home earlier today it was sat on the caravan steps in the exact place I sit! It gave me ' the look ' and strolled off. Swaggered off actually Clearly, I'm still labouring under the misapprehension that this is my house and my garden.

 

Its not my cat. It will not go away, despite my best efforts to deter it. Not even buckets of water ( that was suggested by a cat owner ) It even comes into the house or the caravan if the doors are open. I wouldn't mind it being here if it behaved but it attacks the little birds and the young rats.

Poor Jenny, I bet that gave her a bit of a shock. I'm sure you were forgiven for putting that nasty, big puddle there for her to fall into
