That's interesting @strongylodon. :) There were about a dozen together and it's the first time I've seen Brent Geese close up, they are attractive birds. I see what you mean about the collar and I'll look out for that in the future.

I would never have guessed the other bird was a Godwit, there are quite a few with similar plumage, build and beaks. Thanks for the identity. :dbgrtmb:

@strongylodon I went through the pictures I'd binned and retrieved this one of the Brent Geese with collars showing.

@Zigs It looks like a parasitic Ichneumon Wasp.

If it eats anymore it could be the exploding Golfinch!!!

There is only one pair of Collared Doves around here @ARMANDII, and they fly off at the slightest movement, some folk are plagued by them but not here, do you have more than just those two?

Hi Strongy, the strange thing about those Collared Doves is that I can only remember over the years of having just the one pair flying in to feed, but they have been there without fail.:dunno::snorky: To be honest, I thought I had lost one last week because during my morning amble I discovered a large pile of feathers over a portion of my walk around border, central path, and lawn border. There were also marking canes in the borders that had been pushed out of the vertical indicating a bit of a struggle. The feathers looked like Doves/Pigeon feathers so I was worried I'd lost one of the Doves but after seeing the Doves still intact the following day, I guess it was a poor Pigeon!

Poor Pigeon:sad:. Were your cats responsible? Do cats attack bigger birds?

There are two collared doves in my garden at the moment, but numbers will increase to at least a dozen in the summer.

We usually have about four collared doves but have recently noticed the numbers creeping up, now we're up to seven.

Neither Cat, lucius, has ever killed a Bird:hate-shocked::dunno: They get told off by the resident Blackbirds and move out of the way if the Blackbirds think they're too close. I also have about 3 Hedgehogs permanently in the garden using the Compost Heap as a residence. They will suddenly appear ambling through the borders while the Cats are around and the Cats totally ignore them. The only Birds they take exception to and will not allow in the garden are Magpies which they will see off and not let settle.:cat-kittyandsmiley:
I presume what killed the Pigeon was a Hawk.

Two very photogenic cats you have ARMANDII :)

I don't think cats are a threat to hedgehogs. You are lucky to have the hedgehogs. They are in dire straits at the moment and if the decline continues its predicted they will become extinct by 2020 ( sorry, you probably already know that :) ). I have around 8 hogs who visit regularly ( some are hogs I've released, some not), plus whoever's in care. I have 3 feeding stations and 5 hog houses. The houses are always popular as they offer a cosy, safe place to sleep.

The black cat who has been my nemisis for the past 5 1/2 years does not attack the larger birds, it seems afraid of them. When I arrived home earlier today it was sat on the caravan steps in the exact place I sit! It gave me ' the look ' and strolled off. Swaggered off actually:hate-shocked: Clearly, I'm still labouring under the misapprehension that this is my house and my garden.

'fraid so, Cat's own you, you don't own the Cats.

I can remember, a couple of years ago, when I was sitting by the Wildlife poind and Jenny decided to chase the Frogs in the Bog Garden, [she's never caught one yet, but likes to see them jump into the water], and she slipped in to the pond and disappeared.:hate-shocked: As I stood up two claws appeared out of the water, clamped onto a large stone and Jenny heaved herself out of the water, gave me that look that said it was all my fault and spent the next hour in the sun drying herself off.......and for some reason I did feel guility!!:dunno:
                            :heehee:

Its not my cat. It will not go away, despite my best efforts to deter it. Not even buckets of water ( that was suggested by a cat owner ) It even comes into the house or the caravan if the doors are open. I wouldn't mind it being here if it behaved but it attacks the little birds and the young rats.

Poor Jenny, I bet that gave her a bit of a shock. I'm sure you were forgiven for putting that nasty, big puddle there for her to fall into :snorky:
