Shhh!! It's against the law for overflows from septic tanks to run into ditches unless you can prove the purity of the outflow. Definitely not allowed from cesspools.

 

Good afternoon to day I have been digging out some footings and placing hardcore for the bases of a new wall.bricklaying tomorrow and still looking for a Eucalyptus tree

 

"3. The general binding rules

You must follow the general binding rules if you’re the operator of a septic tank or small sewage treatment plant.


The sewage must:


• be domestic in nature, eg from a toilet, bathroom, shower or kitchen of a house, flat or business (eg a pub, hotel or office) - contact the Environment Agency if you’re not sure if the sewage is domestic in nature
• not cause pollution - find out how to check for pollution


There are other rules depending on whether you’re releasing this sewage:

• to the ground, eg in your back garden
• to a surface water, eg a river or stream

Ask your local installation or maintenance company if you’re not sure what sort of system you have.

Releasing to the ground 

You must use a septic tank or a small sewage treatment plant and a drainage field (infiltration system).


You must apply for a permit if you release (‘discharge’):


• to a well, borehole or other deep structure" 

• more than 2 cubic metres (2,000 litres) per day 

• in a groundwater source protection zone (SPZ1)

You must also read the additional rules for discharging sewage to the ground.

It's been a short working week for me so I took advantage and started potting up 6 cell trays with the annual plants I'd sowed for the garden and the Local Gardening Club sales in May. I'd potted up around 25 trays using compost from a half full 125 litre sack and realised I'd need more than that and the full one in the garage. So I drove to the next town where the nearest B&Q is and picked up six 125 litre sacks of their Verve General Compost. Since each sack weighs in at 97lbs I was "slightly" out of breath by the time I'd loaded the trolley, dragged it to the cash till, and then loaded the car. Getting them out of the car and into the garden is easier as I have a Porters Trolley. So now I'm set up for a days potting up of 6 cells trays with around 15 to 18 hundred seedlings I think, unfortunately, that I will need another 5 or 6 125 litre sacks for the Toms etc, but that's for another day.
