WHAT JOBS ARE WE DOING IN THE GARDEN TODAY - 2017

Really grateful to have a little extra muscle in the garden today.
Hubby helped me with the digging out of the new veg bed today. So instead of filling two trugs, then climbing out of the hole, find somewhere to dump the sand, then climb back in again, we were able to stay "in position" and work though. So got the hold dug out, and filled with a layer of horse muck, topped off with a mix of compost/soil. Tomorrow will be putting in a layer of semi rotted compost. Getting there!!

 

The soakaway ditch is, as I have already stated, part of the septic tank waste system on my property. It is contained within my property and does not drain away onto anyone else's land.

 

At mum's house and dig over the border surrounding the patio, took out the last few plants, laid heavy duty weed suppressant and lugged 800kg of stones in the wheelbarrow and did the border. Bought a couple of trellis thingys for the fence for climbers. Looks so much better and low maintenance for mum. Weeded loads of the remaining borders in the front and back. Absolutely exhausted.

 

Went into the garden this morning , realised it was piddling down , went back inside and got on the couch

 

Left work at 12:30 and went to pick up some horse muck from freecycle. Dugout and filled 10 bags worth. Got home and it started lashing with rain. I had to get it out of the car so had a spot of lunch, got changed and got on with it. I put 8 bags on the front border and dug it in. It really is well rotted stuff. After that the other 2 bags were lugged to the veg garden one and a half dumped on the legume bed and dug in the rest on the brassica bed which had already had a load of compost in and dug over. I'm off next week so I will be going back to get some more muck. The fella said it's in constant supply and just text anytime to arrange collection, so I now have a regular supply of good manure. Pricked out cabbage and chard into cellar trays, gave green house a good watering and that was me done for the day.

I need a little lawn mower guy. so the snowblower is my pretend lawn mower guy till you get one. Digging up tight bulbs/splitting, and re-planting. :onion: that is a daff bulb. Later will have .

 

On the plot: tidying up, folded up the black plastic and raked over the 2nd long bed got 5 bags of dead couch grass, piled the wood up and got rid of the shoddy bits then a tip run, plot over 1 down had a heart attack recently so took his rubbish up too and offered him spuds and onions to get him going. When I was at the tip I done some plastic skip diving 2 like new chairs and lots of containers for tomatoes. Threw 3 bags of compost over the spuds and onions, netted peas and sown sweetcorn and melons. Pricked out chard/parsley/spinach

Dad just rung and wants to dig the bed over tomorrow more sowing in the poly for me

 

Took Erigeron out of patio pot and replanted it in one of the baths out front. Planted Verbena in vacated pot. Looked at grass, considered cutting it, decided couldn't be bothered. Looked at front garden ' project ', decided I couldn't be bothered with that either. Sat on patio watching Sparrows flitting about in hedge, twittering very loudly and flying back and forth to the feeder just a few feet away from me. Two of them are showing a lot of interest in one of the nest boxes close to the patio. Mrs Ratty appeared, climbed up onto the patio table and sat there looking at me hopefully ( the bird food on table had already been eaten ), so she settled for a piece of my digestive instead.
