" If it’s windy as well as wet, then the rain will be peltin’ into your face; and the cutting edge of it comes through in skelchin’, culchin’, kelchin’, or kelshin’ for a heavy storm."

I prepared cell trays for 300 runner bean seeds for people who have ordered plants. I shall need to contact people to find out whether they have a greenhouse to protect and then harden off the beans in order to decide how soon I pop the seeds in.

Mrs Shiney and I spent two hours cutting back the passion flower plant. It has gone mad in the last three years . I also spent four hours mowing whilst Mrs Shiney did repotting and potting on. :)

The primary jobs I had in mind today was to repair the lawn with turf that I had bought yesterday and, after that, start again on the potting up of the annuals in the 6 cell trays. I managed to lay two strips of turf and then it started to rain!!:wallbanging::gaah::snorky: And so, for the last 2 to 3 hours it has been raining steadily:dunno:...........but at least it will settle the new turf into the lawn.:dunno::coffee::snorky:

Really grateful to have a little extra muscle in the garden today.
Hubby helped me with the digging out of the new veg bed today. So instead of filling two trugs, then climbing out of the hole, find somewhere to dump the sand, then climb back in again, we were able to stay "in position" and work though. So got the hold dug out, and filled with a layer of horse muck, topped off with a mix of compost/soil. Tomorrow will be putting in a layer of semi rotted compost. Getting there!!

The soakaway ditch is, as I have already stated, part of the septic tank waste system on my property. It is contained within my property and does not drain away onto anyone else's land.

At mum's house and dig over the border surrounding the patio, took out the last few plants, laid heavy duty weed suppressant and lugged 800kg of stones in the wheelbarrow and did the border. Bought a couple of trellis thingys for the fence for climbers. Looks so much better and low maintenance for mum. Weeded loads of the remaining borders in the front and back. Absolutely exhausted.

Left work at 12:30 and went to pick up some horse muck from freecycle. Dugout and filled 10 bags worth. Got home and it started lashing with rain. I had to get it out of the car so had a spot of lunch, got changed and got on with it. I put 8 bags on the front border and dug it in. It really is well rotted stuff. After that the other 2 bags were lugged to the veg garden one and a half dumped on the legume bed and dug in the rest on the brassica bed which had already had a load of compost in and dug over. I'm off next week so I will be going back to get some more muck. The fella said it's in constant supply and just text anytime to arrange collection, so I now have a regular supply of good manure. Pricked out cabbage and chard into cellar trays, gave green house a good watering and that was me done for the day.

Ah! When you mentioned ditch I thought you meant a ditch that runs alongside roads. One of my neighbours, many years ago, piped his run off from his tank into the ditch. It was legal then :noidea: but the pipe has never been disconnected (property on its third owner since then).

All our properties had hand pumps fitted to the tanks (a pipe standing 3ft high, a bend at the top and a hose could be attached) and everyone used to pump the liquids straight into the field at the back when the farmer was doing his muck spreading (from the pig farm). All legal. :)

Managed to get into the garden, well, on the patio at least and start potting up the 6 cell trays again with Shasta Daisies, Calendula, and more Cosmos. I managed to pot up 36 trays of Shasta Daisies, 32 trays of Cosmos, and 29 trays of Calendula. Tomorrow, if it stays dry, I will pot up some more 6 cell trays with Holly Hock, Lupin, Echinacea, Scabious, Penstemons, and Rudbeckia...well, that's the plan.:dunno::whistle::heehee: I've only got a 125 or so 6 cell trays left and I've got a funny feeling I might need more as I still have more seed trays of all the plants I've already potted up.:coffee::snorky:

On the plot: tidying up, folded up the black plastic and raked over the 2nd long bed got 5 bags of dead couch grass, piled the wood up and got rid of the shoddy bits then a tip run, plot over 1 down had a heart attack recently so took his rubbish up too and offered him spuds and onions to get him going. When I was at the tip I done some plastic skip diving :hmmmm: 2 like new chairs and lots of containers for tomatoes. Threw 3 bags of compost over the spuds and onions, netted peas and sown sweetcorn and melons. Pricked out chard/parsley/spinach

Dad just rung and wants to dig the bed over tomorrow  more sowing in the poly for me :snork:

Took Erigeron out of patio pot and replanted it in one of the baths out front. Planted Verbena in vacated pot. Looked at grass, considered cutting it, decided couldn't be bothered. Looked at front garden ' project ', decided I couldn't be bothered with that either. Sat on patio watching Sparrows flitting about in hedge, twittering very loudly and flying back and forth to the feeder just a few feet away from me. Two of them are showing a lot of interest in one of the nest boxes close to the patio. Mrs Ratty appeared, climbed up onto the patio table and sat there looking at me hopefully ( the bird food on table had already been eaten ), so she settled for a piece of my digestive instead.

Repotted Marsh Marigold. Looking at preformed ponds on ebay now :snorky:
