Planted out eight sweet peppers in the greenhouse; four red ones (Beauty Bell) and four orange ones (Kubista). I haven't tried Kubista before so it will be interesting to see how they perform.

Scattered some Italian basil seed in the soil around the tomatoes and peppers in the greenhouse, it grows quite happily in between the plants and seems to help deter pests too.

Sowed some more spring onions in the veg patch.

Sprayed some of the broad beans and lupins with a liquid derris mixture, as a few aphids have appeared.

Watered and fed all the pots and containers.

I mowed the small front lawn but, because I'd let the grass on the rear lawn grow almost knee high due to letting newly laid turf settle, I had to be content with strimming it......I also discovered I need a new Strimmer as mine is getting on a bit.:dunno::heehee:
The Alpine Cottage Sink near the stone seat under the Acer Brilliantissimum has needed replanting and dressing with white gravel for weeks, so I got down on my knees and planted some new Alpines and then used the white gravel to set them off.........doesn't look too bad at all.:snorky:
After a sit on the patio with a mug of tea to take in what's growing and flowering in the borders I got back on my knees again and started weeding the cracks in the central path while throwing any soil back onto the borders. It took nearly 45 minutes to complete the job but it does look so much better.
Tomorrow I have to take stock of all the hundreds of 6 cell trays with the seedlings. Then I'll put them into groups of varieties and plant up any missing seedlings in the trays with trays of back up plants in the Green House. I've got a feeling that will be a longer job than I want it to be.:snorky:

Well, didn't do much today apart from make a 2 metre extension to the patio flower bed .

Not really planned, but yesterday we decided that the Charles de mills rose was really unhappy in its pot. So thought about a new place to put it....

Today I extended the patio bed, making a retaining wall for the top of the steep slope, out of the removed turfs. Digging a hole to plant the rose was difficult - rock hard clay (the only part of the garden with clay), with all sorts of debris buried in it. We found paving slabs, bricks, stones, tiles, stop-taps, tarred roofing felt, and even insulated earthing cables! We decided to move another rose from the back of the existing bed, as it had not thrived in the past 5 years. When I lifted it I found that only 2 roots had left the planting hole!! So the poorly rose was put to the front (Winchester cathedral), with Charlie to the back. Other herbaceous perennials dotted in between, though there will be gaps for the first year...

I know not the best time to move roses - we have put cable tidy tubing in to direct water down to the roots.
You can see how long it took by the reduced lighting levels!
Because the bank is relatively unstable, I decided not to dig over the whole area, but just the planting holes. This is in the hope that the solid clay block will hold together more!

After a cold wet miserable spring, we are finally at the point that plants can go in the garden. Today I planted the aubergine that has been growing in the greenhouse into raised beds along with a few pepper plants. The plants are Black Beauty started from seed about six weeks ago. Prior to placing the plants in the ground, I hardened them off for three days by placing them outdoors on the deck during the day.

Put dahlias in pots, moved them and lillies round the front. Planted out cosmos sensation and ladybird, catananche caerulea, 2 different rudbeckia in the front and back. 2 small hanging baskets and few pots with begonias, 2 hanging baskets and 2 pots with trailing geraniums, fuschias, petunia and lobelia. Watering, watering and then more watering - a few wilted fellows in the greenhouse this evening, so it has been hot in there today even though it was opened up :phew:

We've had another hot day here. The transplanted roses are holding up well, with no leaf droop, although a few flower buds are a little droopy...

Watered the greenhouse and veg beds. And I have started to notch out the posts for the new compost bins.

After a visit to the Physiotherapist, I sat out on the Patio by a table and started sorting out some of the 6 trays of seedlings, replacing some that had not grown on or were damaged........still some more to do tomorrow. Whenever I sit down I get a "hairy growth" on my knee, which is Sally the cat.:cat-kittyandsmiley: I know one thing, she's useless at potting up.:coffee:

Mowed the lawn, watered the lawn and borders, went and bought two cucumber plants and planted them up, they looked happy in the late afternoon sun in their new home,

Reading up its best to take the flowers/veg from the first four nodes, i will do that tomorrow :)

Mowed the lawn and nearly finished planting up the front garden.
Didn't get round to giving the patio furniture another coat (tomorrows job)
Then around with the watering can :snorky:
