So, where do the EU standards fall in this?
Is there a case to answer for challenging this in respect of EU legislation?

I know many people are looking to the UK Gov for answers, but, let's be honest, this has all occurred under an EU "watch" in terms of EU laws/safety standards.
So, in my pea brain, I'm wondering why no one is holding the EU accountable for such a travesty in terms of health and safety/quality control?

 

If it's got the CE sticker it mush be safe

So flaming true @fat controller. My ancient toaster packed up last year, it took hardly any time at all to produce well done toast as I like it. The new all singing and dancing thing is pathetic and despite being on the highest setting I still need to put the bread down twice to get it toasted enough. bet I use more electricity doing this than what I used with the old 1. i thought the new toaster was faulty until my daughter told me how thanks to the EU so many appliances aren't as powerful as they used to be.....sigh

Just seen this interesting thread and good to see someone prepared to give their views and name the brands.

While personally not too worried about washers or dryers because we do not go out and leave them on and they are generally only lightly loaded and kept clean, but its the freestanding 6 year old Beko Fridge Freezer that does concern me.

It still seems to work well and its kept in a cleanish kitchen environment with a decent air flow around it, occasionally having the fins cleaned of dust, is there anything I can or should be doing to ensure its safe to use ?
The plug and dedicated socket are good, clean and correctly fused; dry powder fire extinguisher in the house.

 

We have three chest freezers and i clean the cooling fins twice a year, but lots of people don't

We haven't been back home doors long as we have been down to our local Currys to see about a new Fridge freezer as I have finally convinced Mr Kandy that out 18 year old Bosh one is on its way out.When you open the freezer door and put your hand on the top of it it feels hot which I don't think is right and also we are finding one day we can spread our butter easily from the fridge yet the next day it has gone quiet hard and was difficult to spread We were talking to someone last week about it and they said it sounds like the thermostat in the fridge has gone haywire

Anyway,off we trot down to Currys to sort out a new one and was most disappointed in the range they had on offer.A lot of them were either Becko or Hotpoint or they wasn't frost free,plus when you look inside the fridge there is one top shelf then two crispers underneath which we don't really want.Also we need one a certain depth but all of them are now deeper soif we have one of them they will stick out past our cupboards What also cracked me up was at the end of the display of them there was a stand with a box full of Carbon Monoxide testers,I kid you not

So now we are home we are looking at John Lewis's website for starters and we have narrowed it down to a choice of 44 in the clearance section but less if we get rid of the rubbish makes but I think £999 a bit steep just to keep our food cold and frozen

Another thing that annoys me is why do they have to build these things for only tall people?I am only 5ft 1" and it does do my head in having to stand on a step to reach the top shelf to get anything,cupboards are just the same and I struggle with those as well.

I really need a fridge freezer that stand side by side,but unfortunately my kitchen isn't big enough to accommodate those sort and Mr Kandy being 5ft 8" in height would moan he had to kneel down on the kitchen floor to get anything out of them
