Everflow hosepipe?

With a very large garden - around an acre - the ability to get water round the garden is important. One problem is the hose kinking to the point of preventing the passage of water. Quite often, I find myself disconnecting a hose completely to 'unravel' it, even though I use high quality hose.

I recently came across Everflow made by Copley. It is claimed that even when 'doubled over', water will still flow. Feedback seems to support that. However, some users identify a problem.

The ability for water to flow is achieved by a 'spine' running internally through the hose. Some users have found difficulty in getting connectors etc to seal fully, and have had leaks. One user referred to the need for a special tool to remove the spine for a very short distance into the hose. Other users report no problems at all.

I did the obvious thing: several days ago, I emailed Copley asking about these issues. Remarkably, I haven't received a word from them.

(In another post recently, I mentioned having contacted Hyundai about one of their products, and got nothing back: I still haven't).

I wondered whether any members use Everflow hose, and whether it performs as the makers claim. Is there an issue about removing the spine to get a good seal?

Thanks for that. Copley/Everflow don't show a yellow one: they are green/grey. Perhaps it is an older pattern. Do you know whether it has the inner 'spine' as the current version?

 

Thanks for that. It sounds as though that might be 3/4". I'll have to have a think. Most of my hoses don't actually move: they simply, via manifolds, get water to one or another area of the garden. It is the last 30 metres or so that gets dragged around and kink. At about £1 per metre, I may have to work-out just how much I need for the 'dragged-around' lengths. I guess that is going to be about 100 metres.

The Everflow is 'recommended' by RHS: that may mean something - or not!

I bought 100 metres. The cheapest place was Argos (online)! Still works out at around 85p per metre. Unfortunately, it doesn't come on a reel, and simply coiled isn't the easiest way of getting 50 metres off without kinks etc until you can straighten it out.

Moreover, the the inner spine is already removed for a couple of inches at either end, but, when you cut lengths, you have to remove the spine. I have some very small craft type knives and they were fine.

The flow is good even when kinked. That was the main reason for buying the Everflow.

 

Fortunately, we have high water pressure, so much so that the Hozelock lance usually tries to fight me unless I reduce the pressure! I'm will enjoy not having continually to walk backwards and forwards to 'unkink' it.

 

I gave the Everflow the first proper test this morning. Dragging 40 metres of heavier than usual hose takes a bit more effort. However, it had three very sharp kinks and a couple of fairly tight bends. The flow was slightly down but still more than good enough. It was wonderful not to have to stop to unkink the hose. It did well for my energy and patience!

I pronounce the Everflow a success.
