Corona Virus Treatment

The one that sticks in my mind is Rosemary Verey. Tripping round her garden in embroidered velvet taking the credit for a garden that only a team of gardeners had ever touched ...grrrrr.

Like you I am in the dark as to the way the virus works, but no, I don't think the idea is that it goes away as such, if no-one is about. Instead, the purpose of a lockdown, partial or total, is to reduce infection for a period of time - if we're not mingling in public, we've no chance of picking it up or passing it on. During that time period the NHS has more chance to cope, and the authorities have time to develop a better track/trace system etc. That's my understanding of it - its just to provide breathing space and prevent hospital beds being taken up by covid patients. The virus its self will start to fade, it is hoped, in the spring, since as a respiratory infection its likelier to be caught in autumn or winter, and in due course the controversial "herd immunity" will kick in, and at some point hopefully a vaccine.

 

I haven't bought a single plant this year, except one ill-fated Chinese lantern plant. I had hoped during the first lockdown to revive my garden, and did to some degree, but since then a combination of factors has prevented me. I suspect the latest developments will affect garden centres as much as anywhere, and any independent nurseries that happen to be open this time of year. I've always enjoyed winter gardening, but maybe this year it is just not to be.

You took the words out of my mouth. Geoff H was my favourite. Does anyone remember the tv documentary they about him the Christmas after he died? It was Christmas 1998, I'm sure. They interviewed his family and described how he went to horticultural college and got in trouble for climbing on the roof with some friends. They played many clips and celebrated his career as a gardener and presenter. I've looked for it on youtube but never found it.
