No, but to be fair @ARMANDII it was Michael Gove speaking - whilst I am not a fan of the man, I think it fair to say that he is closer to the inner workings of what is going on than any of us here.

It wasn't that that I was thinking of, FC,:dunno: What gets to me is that since this whole thing began we've been in Lockdowns, Tiers of restrictions, failed lockdowns, a continued trail of people just ignoring the dangers of contracting the Virus and, basically, not giving any thought to passing it on to other people which has caused more infections and death.........so why would we question that any period of lockdown would be definitive when people every day are ignoring the basic rules? No period of Lock Down can be guaranteed so, to me, Gove was giving us the Heads Up in an honest answer.:dunno:

Don't forget to wear the GC "Special Jacket" as well, John, the specially reinforced one with the large buckles...

And, if you've run out of the GC Blue Pills, we'll send some in the Post.

The one that sticks in my mind is Rosemary Verey. Tripping round her garden in embroidered velvet taking the credit for a garden that only a team of gardeners had ever touched ...grrrrr.

I've always disliked pretentious "Gardeners" who take you around their gardens where they've always pointed a finger to get a job done rather than getting soil on that finger. Designed gardens are not my thing although my Wife and I always admired the sometimes artistry and thought that went into them. Perhaps my chaotic Cottage Style Garden is an escape from any danger of being pretentious.:dunno::heehee:

I would love a garden like yours @ARMANDII - something about that style of garden that I really like.

Sorry but, as I say. I don't know how this virus works. An imaginary scenario. Total Lockdown. Almost not a soul out and about. So what does the virus do? As there are for the present no humans to infect. Does the viral cells die, go away or what/ or do they hang about and as soon as the lockdown is over, attack, attack!
                        [/QUOTE]

Like you I am in the dark as to the way the virus works, but no, I don't think the idea is that it goes away as such, if no-one is about. Instead, the purpose of a lockdown, partial or total, is to reduce infection for a period of time - if we're not mingling in public, we've no chance of picking it up or passing it on. During that time period the NHS has more chance to cope, and the authorities have time to develop a better track/trace system etc. That's my understanding of it - its just to provide breathing space and prevent hospital beds being taken up by covid patients. The virus its self will start to fade, it is hoped, in the spring, since as a respiratory infection its likelier to be caught in autumn or winter, and in due course the controversial "herd immunity" will kick in, and at some point hopefully a vaccine.

I haven't bought a single plant this year, except one ill-fated Chinese lantern plant. I had hoped during the first lockdown to revive my garden, and did to some degree, but since then a combination of factors has prevented me. I suspect the latest developments will affect garden centres as much as anywhere, and any independent nurseries that happen to be open this time of year. I've always enjoyed winter gardening, but maybe this year it is just not to be.

Agreed, Simon, but he was very formal and, Gawd Bless 'im, in those days it was habit to talk at people rather than to them, Simon. The Man who, in my opinion, surpassed him in every way was the late great Geof Hamilton who talked to people watching him on the TV as though he was part of the family passing on great advice and to many he was a Hero of Gardening.

You took the words out of my mouth. Geoff H was my favourite. Does anyone remember the tv documentary they about him the Christmas after he died? It was Christmas 1998, I'm sure. They interviewed his family and described how he went to horticultural college and got in trouble for climbing on the roof with some friends. They played many clips and celebrated his career as a gardener and presenter. I've looked for it on youtube but never found it.
