Yesterday I did a couple of 40l trus-full of weeding of the patio bed, and the top border, as well as a couple of trugs-full of acorns picked off the top border. A lot of the weeding was delicately pulling out strands of moss from the creeping thymes.

Today was about planting those daffodil bulbs that the fox had dug out, and over 2 hours of grass-cutting.

I can’t move now, so am being supported in glasses of white wine, whilst hubby cooks risotto for tea :pathd:

Found a part roll of solid neoprene rubber seal in the shed so I've fixed it to the bottom of the cold frame, a few inches short either side but it'll keep it off the ground.

Potted up the pansy and viola plugs

And potted up the bacopa cuttings, by the look of the roots i probably should have done it weeks ago

Finally got to the allotment today  spent a few hours weeding and clearing the second of the veg beds. Once home I repotted the Salvia Amistad , penstemon cuttings and Poppies from seeds cuttings up into bigger pots. The dahlia have finally been bitten by the frost so dug them up and they are nicely tucked away in the shed. Swept the back patio of leaves too. The garden is still in flower all over so I haven't really had much to do which is good as it's not stopped raining. So it's just a waiting game now to get the tender plants sorted out when they are ready.

Managed an hour in the garden today. Yesterday was too cold 4 deg C. Today in the unheated greenhouse it was 60 F. Main task to brush up some of the leaves, befor the worms start dragging them down into the soil. Also pulled up and potted three Laurus Nobilis. All sown by magpies or squirells. Light faded fast so back to the indorr life. Really enjoyed the time out.

It was very cold yeaterday so was in and out between dividing plants and potting up and coming indoors and cleaning out/reorganising the food cupboards.

Sun is out earlier today, so hoping it'll be a little bit warmer than yesterday.

I need to dig up a big patch of white campanula, pink achillea And divide a couple of massive ice plants.

Yesterday was first day for over a week that it hasn't :rain:. My garden is very soggy, too wet to do most of the jobs I want to do. The hole that was excavated for new pond is now three quarters full of water and other parts of the garden are turning into mud lakes. Lots of localised flooding in the surrounding fields. It's not looking very likely that I am going to be able to catch up on the gardening stuff, unless stays dry for rest of the winter.

Today and this weekend: Finally plant garlic, play with new pruning saw and extending handle, move rest of dahlias to green house, pick up after wind, tidy up achimenes. bring some of the cacti into the house, move out finished tomatoes from greenhouse, deadhead and prune roses etc to reduce wind rock, firm in any that are loose plus anything else I see that needs doing.

Pruned out the old stems of one of the blackberries and tie the new stems in,pull up or dig out roots of some brambles.

Most of our time is taken up with clearing, cutting back, weeding, leaf clearing etc.

We dug out the last of the compost in this heap and it filled ten barrows
                    P1500038.JPG

The heap next to it was getting a bit full even with bashing it down with the plank
                    P1500037.JPG

So we have started taking the top off the heap and putting it in the empty one.
                    P1500085.JPG

Work in progress - and we shall shift more over when we have compressed what we have already moved
                    P1500086.JPG

We've also dug out all the good compost from the next heap and that's also ready for taking new leaves, grass etc.
                    P1500087.JPG

There are still two other heaps that have been maturing for a couple of years that will be spread around the garden.

We rolled back the weed suppresant (after removing the last of the bean plants) dug over the area, composted and pinned the suppresant back down. It's the last of the covered areas that needed doing
                    P1500084.JPG

Made a separate area for the left over brassica plants that someone dropped into us but don't know if they'll do any good. We don't normally bother with brassicas. Don't even know what these are!
                    P1500083.JPG

Dug out and filled in the 18" wide hole under the fence that the rabbits had made and the badgers have been using and buried this vertically. That's the fourth section of wire we have put in and if they move further along the fence the neighbour might actually do something from his side as they will now be digging in his lawn. He didn't care before because the holes they were making were behind some shrubs and they weren't destroying any of the plants in his garden as they find our garden a gourmet restaurant. We've rebuilt our rabbit and deer fence the other side of the garden that was destroyed by a 70ft poplar falling through it.
                    P1500024.JPG

There were no plants in this section, where they came under the fence, as they had all been dug out by the rabbits.
                    P1500023.JPG

Grass cutting goes on as usual. By the time I've cut all the lawns I have to start again. That's because I can't mow for much more than an hour at a time. :noidea: :old: I mow and then trim the edges.

I feel I should have been posting more on here... Today I'll be planting out a yew hedge that arrived unexpectedly yesterday.
Recently have been creating a new herb garden and started the veg beds. Haven't started one of for years so pondering what to do for a great start, probably dump as much compost at the bottom as I can find and place the tumbled mud on top. Ground is like iron after the compaction of diggers and 6 months of scaffolding, workers etc and plenty of stones to contend with too!
Veg beds are currently planned at six 1x2m beds but they look quite tiny once the ground has been scalped of turf so might increase them at some point.

                          Did some weeding.

The day, again, was dry, no breeze, but only in the lower 50f's temperatures so I got down on my knees again and started searching for space to plant the nearly 500 Tulip bulbs, 200 Crocus bulbs and around 100 Daffodil bulbs, which I did, but still have a sackful of last Spring's Tete-a-Tete Daffodils to plant:wallbanging:. I think they will go into the front garden border where the row of eight Lavender bushes are planted.:dunno::doh:
So I spent around 4 hours in the garden planting bulbs on top of other previously, over the years, planted bulbs. There's also a patch of left alone ground at the bottom of the "walk around" border where Ivy and creeping Buttercup has started to cover the bulbs of the hundreds of Snowdrops that are there so they, the Ivy and Buttercups, have had to go. I intend to replant, during the Spring, that area with some more Hardy Perennials such as Echinops, Leucanthemums. Eryngiums, Astilbes, and maybe one or two bi-annuals such as Digitalis.
Tomorrow the main job is to sort and tidy up the Green House while I contemplate whether or not to make space for some large buckets in which to grown some Tomatoes. I still have another path on the East side of the garden to clean and clear, while also clearing plant debris from the borders. I might also construct a Chicken Wire enclosure down by the bottom of the garden to compost all the leaves that are lying deep around that area and make some Leaf Mould.....but that's tomorrow:dunno::heehee::cat-kittyandsmiley::coffee:

Made up another two big raised beds to take up to the lotty. Also brushed and cleaned up the raised patio and seats and covered them over with green tarp for the winter. Moved some pots into the cold frame and some plants into the greenhouse. Hope tomorrow's weather is just as nice so we can do some more digging on the lotty.
