    The ground is still frozen so can't do anything and it's too cold.

      Like everyone else the weather is too cold and off putting to really do anything in the Garden except for the amble around the garden in the morning and it's still only 31.5f. There's a large belt of cloud, on the radar weather map, moving in from the West that looks like it's got some rain on it. So, as ever, when frustrated with just peering out of the window and not being able to really do any gardening jobs I have started planning a replanting of the Wildlife pond and some of the shadier borders with some more Ferns. So, I've ordered.........

      Six Fern Asplenium Scolopendrium
      [IMG]

      3 Osmunda Regalis
      [IMG]

      3 Dryopteris Filix-mas Fucans
      [IMG]

      3 Polystichum Polyblepharum
      [IMG]

      I've got a pretty good idea where they will go and they will provide even more shelter for the Wildlife.:cat-kittyandsmiley::coffee:

        @ARMANDII they look great.
        I was thinking of buying some creeping sedums, do they flower well like in the pictures? With them covered in flowers.

          I've got a few Sedums in pots at the moment, Logan, waiting for some reasonable weather to plant them. They like full Sun and partial shade and my fast draining soil. Will they flower as well as in the Retailers pics.......well, like all plants it takes time for them to establish and if the conditions are right you might get something like it.:dunno::heehee:

            Well as we were wrapped up still from dog walking we thought we would take the IBC tank up to the lotty and get the guttering fitted.

            I'm really pleased with it. Dave has done a great job with the guttering.

            Just need to make the lid for the cold frame and I am going to get a cover for the IBC tank, then it is all done! :biggrin:

                Thanks Upsy. Only got elephant garlic planted in it so far and a few pots of raspberry canes from my old raised beds are in pots as well as a blackcurrant bush. Just got to work out where to put those. Can't wait for the weather to improve now. It is forecast rain here from tomorrow evening until Thursday, so hopefully my water tank will be filling up :D

                          The plot looks amazing Snorky. Instead of covering the IBC you could surround it with pallets and make a living wall.

                              @Snorky85 that's a very stylish shed! Love the horseshoe on the door especially.

                              @ARMANDII the Victorian Kitchen Garden sounds like an interesting watch. Tried to find some on Youtube but no luck. Don't think I will be shelling out for the DVD though - $$$!

                              We're back into a (hopefully) 5 day total lockdown here so with weekend plans cancelled and a pleasant 20c outside it was the perfect day to crack on with some serious gardening:
                              - Picked the last of the blueberries (a nice 500gm bowl) and gave the plants a little TLC, pruning off broken branches, a smidge of fertiliser, deep watering and mulch. We've had our two oldest bushes for 5-6 years now and starting to get a substantial amount of fruit each season. When the other three I recently planted mature it will be blueberry pie for the whole town :yahoo:
                              - Pulled the rest of the onions and arranged them in the glasshouse to dry. I'm very happy with the Red Tropea variety but Brown Cippolini was a dud with many either bolting or doing some weird splitting. Will try something else next year.
                              - Dug up the Pink Fir Apple spuds and fluffed up both the spud beds ready for the next crop.
                              - Saved lettuce and basil seeds.
                              - Pruned and tied in new growth on the olive espaliers.
                              - General noodling about pulling a weed here and there and pondering future plans.

                              Similar forecast for today and plenty more to do (isn't there always?) so :fingers crossed: for a productive day.

                                @Cassie

                                Hi Cassie, it was a TV series started in the 90's and, I think, not put on DVD until around 2005 when, of course, prices were much lower. The cheapest I saw it was on e-Bay for around £61 for the complete series which consists of 6 DVD covering the Victorian Kitchen Garden, then the Victorian Flower Garden and finally the Victorian Kitchen and it is a amazing collection showing all the old gardening methods, growing the old varieties which is just an eye opener.
                                Stirred by watching that I have just bought "Out of Town" another 90's TV series on DVD which a very wise guy called Jack Hargreaves talked and showed things about Country Life, it's traditions, folklore and history, and was a huge success, then as an aside I also bought the complete DVD series The Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Return to the Lost Gardens of Heligan, but as they only arrived yesterday I haven't had time to watch them.
