WHAT ARE WE DOING IN THE GARDEN TODAY - 2021

The ground is still frozen so can't do anything and it's too cold.

 

@ARMANDII they look great.
I was thinking of buying some creeping sedums, do they flower well like in the pictures? With them covered in flowers.

 

Well as we were wrapped up still from dog walking we thought we would take the IBC tank up to the lotty and get the guttering fitted.

I'm really pleased with it. Dave has done a great job with the guttering.

Just need to make the lid for the cold frame and I am going to get a cover for the IBC tank, then it is all done!

Thanks Upsy. Only got elephant garlic planted in it so far and a few pots of raspberry canes from my old raised beds are in pots as well as a blackcurrant bush. Just got to work out where to put those. Can't wait for the weather to improve now. It is forecast rain here from tomorrow evening until Thursday, so hopefully my water tank will be filling up :D

I know, I feel the same. Roll on Spring..actually I'll happily settle for just a few higher Cs in the temperature !!

The plot looks amazing Snorky. Instead of covering the IBC you could surround it with pallets and make a living wall.

@ARMANDII the Victorian Kitchen Garden sounds like an interesting watch. Tried to find some on Youtube but no luck. Don't think I will be shelling out for the DVD though - $$$!

We're back into a (hopefully) 5 day total lockdown here so with weekend plans cancelled and a pleasant 20c outside it was the perfect day to crack on with some serious gardening:
- Picked the last of the blueberries (a nice 500gm bowl) and gave the plants a little TLC, pruning off broken branches, a smidge of fertiliser, deep watering and mulch. We've had our two oldest bushes for 5-6 years now and starting to get a substantial amount of fruit each season. When the other three I recently planted mature it will be blueberry pie for the whole town
- Pulled the rest of the onions and arranged them in the glasshouse to dry. I'm very happy with the Red Tropea variety but Brown Cippolini was a dud with many either bolting or doing some weird splitting. Will try something else next year.
- Dug up the Pink Fir Apple spuds and fluffed up both the spud beds ready for the next crop.
- Saved lettuce and basil seeds.
- Pruned and tied in new growth on the olive espaliers.
- General noodling about pulling a weed here and there and pondering future plans.

Similar forecast for today and plenty more to do (isn't there always?) so for a productive day.
