First Blackcap of the Spring, overwinters in the Med/Morocco so it hasn't had too far to come.

Distant shot in poor weather conditions but while on a Poole Harbour bird boat yesterday we had reasonably good views of one of the White Tailed Eagles from the Isle of Wight translocation project.

I don't think the birds here in Shineyland have reset their clocks. They were singing quite merrily at 3 a.m.!

Recently we have had trouble with our peanut feeder no longer being suitable. It was a simple hanging one and the small birds and woodpeckers have been happily using it for years. Then two Jays decided they would take over. They ripped out some of the wires on the feeder to make it easier to remove whole peanuts and they kept chasing off the other birds.

Someone lent me one of the feeders that have a cage round it but the woodpeckers didn't use it. So now I have a rather expensive one that shuts off the feeding holes if the bird is too heavy. You can set the weight it will take to match whatever you wish to stop from using it. The outer casing is spring loaded and if the weight is more than it is set at the outer casing lowers over the feeding section. It only took three days for the Jays to give up trying. They are still able to eat from our seed feeders.

The lower ledge is made specifically for woodpeckers as they use their tails for balancing and can rest the tail on the ledge.

Yes, it's very good but expensive. I think they sell at around £60 :rolleyespink:

It’s been a fascinating watch of what’s in the box the last week or so. Moss comes in, moss gets taken out. For some reason, the blue tit was dumping it in one of the holly trees, then getting another beakfull from elsewhere. Looks like it’s used some of the Stipa I left lying around, and seems to be nearing completion. Next week should see some developments.
