LATEST MOAN FROM YOU AND ME - 2022

The hygienist works on a private basis (although also does NHS) but my annual checkup and any treatment are NHS. We have two forms of medical insurance and the cheaper one is known as a cash plan. For that we pay somewhere between £50 and £60 a month and can claim our regular health bills for things such as dental, optical, chiropody, chiropractic, osteo, hearing, consultant etc. There's an annual limit to how much they pay out for each type of treatment - depending on how much you pay per month. So it covers my three monthly visit to the hygienist, Chiropodist every six weeks, new lenses (and frames if necessary) every year or two, regular treatments on my back etc. Getting old is no fun but much better than the other option.

A friend of mine doesn't have insurance but pays about the same for his Sport TV package. Each to his own

I have a friend in Scotland that doesn't have any problem getting NHS dental treatment but I suppose it depends on whereabouts you live. I suppose that's one of the joys of living in the wild

When I was at the dentist yesterday they were very busy and all seemed to be NHS. They were checking people in but asking those who were early to come back only five minutes before their appointment as they don't allow many in the waiting areas (one downstairs and one upstairs).

 

Same as a lot of people, here it's almost impossible to get to actually speak to anyone. I was encouraged to use online consultation for one of my children this year but the booking didn't work on the website! I tried Livi which 'worked' inasmuch as the appointment was kept and we spoke to someone but they said they can't prescribe anything and they really needed to be seen in person . What is the point?!
You can easily see why a&e is overrun.

There's also a shocking disregard in new developments for doctor and school places. Masses of new dwellings swamping already overloaded facilities.

 

That was only for the 'cash plan' that we pay that insurance and it deals with the smaller bills. The other insurance is for major things and is almost unlimited in how much we can claim for. Of course, each time a claim is made there is some loss of the no claims bonus which results in an increase in premium.

 

Prescriptions are free for us wrinklies!

 

I have a suggestion, how about a trip in a leaky boat to the coast of Somalia for this lot
