The cost of living... what can we do?

I will be defrosting all my meat joints in future to cut down on cooking time.

 

I use a offcut of carpet, cut to size, rolled & glued. So easy to roll into place with one foot.

 

Shouldn't you be doing that anyway?

 

I think with an 80% rise in energy, and that's forgetting the previous rise, and then another big hike in January there isn't much you can do to make a difference, unless you have been reckless in the past.

Oh and don't forget, when covid gets going again in the winter keep all your windows open.

Yeah but I did all that last year.

 

We've got all the insulation done years ago. I wash my hair once a week instead of 2. Hubby used to wash his every day but only once a week. I only wash clothes and other things if i only have a full load but I'm not sure if reducing the temperature helps with cleaning them as good.
My washing machine only takes in a bit of water because the modern ones do now.

 

I've reduced my washing machine temp to 40, is this as low as I can go to get the clothes clean?

 

I think you can go lower ...modern washing liquids are telling us that stains can be removed on much cooler washes. Try a 30 temp program and do a 30 minute soak at the beginning .
Check an item in the load for stain removal.....I would love to know if it works for you John,

I've been using 40c for years, but I use 60c on bedding.
Most of my clothes still have dribble down the front when they come out.

I dont think it gets stains out.

 

I am worried that if you turn off all radiators in unused rooms - spare bedrooms, loft space - and it's very cold....will mould develop?
