Words that get on your nerves

Super is often superfluous.

 

Stews are liquid and thus cannot be dented.

 

You could manage it with a partially defrosted stew or one where the bag got mangled when you were freezing it

 

It's welsh I believe. "White head" or something like that, literally (!)

 

Student and Stewdent are not the same sounds to my ears.

 

It is not the only word where people insert a random letter for no apparent reason. Other examples are Longditude and Mischievious.

 

I still don't get it. Where is the extra sound in student? I realise you can emphasise the first syllable or the last or neither. Is that the issue?
You could also say stewgnt,

 

Sometimes it's the opposite, people remove letters that really ought to be left alone.
F'tb'llers, for instance. Or even 'F'b'llers' if they're being really stingy.
