Which is what I have done. I have already been given a completion date and am waiting for a date for the men to come and remove the fire to check if it can be repaired before investing in a new one.
    2nd Grump.
I am finally having my refuse collected as Assisted Collection. It has only taken me almost 3 months and 5 telephone calls to organise it. Yeah!

You are not alone in that sort of thing driving you nuts. I have a colleague who took her car in for a service to the main dealer who said it needed two tyres, one because it had a damaged sidewall (fair enough - and they provided photograph to show it) and another because it was down to 4.5mm and getting close to needing replacement. They failed to recommend she replace the other two which were 3.2 & 3.6mm respectively... so why replace one at 4.5mm, but not the ones lower? Worse still, the ones they replaced were not even on the same axle!

Sadly, that same colleague's sister got royally ripped off by a Jaguar main dealer, and by the time I found out what work she had agreed to, it was too late. In short, her car broke down and was towed to the main dealer who diagnosed a broken wire on the ad-blue injector loom. The loom as a whole new part was not available from the factory, so they opted to repair the loom (cut and re-pin the plug which had two pins)... really, really simple job that I could have done in 20 mins lying flat on my back under the car (and that includes time to drink a cuppa) - the bill? Over £900

      The connector:

      It infuriates me.

I remember years ago when we had a new front door fitted and the chap was demonstrating how to lock it. My husband tried it, then the chap said "Let's let the little lady have a go".

I gave him a look that would have felled King Kong because a. I'm not exactly little and b. I'm certainly no lady.
Needless to say he apologised and l managed to lock the door without having a fit of the vapours.

Every now and again when we leave the house, my darling husband asks "Have you managed to lock the door, little lady ?". Bless him.

That's awful, and I can well believe it. Us older women have a double whammy, not only are we female so therefore don't have a brain, we're older therefore most of our braincells have expired. We're obviously ripe for being taken for a ride.

When I went shopping for a new car @AnniD with my boyfriend at the time [later to be husband] the guy spent ages directing all the jargon and info to him. Boyfriend had to butt in and say 'it's not me who's buying it'. The guy at least had the decency to go red.
What do these clowns not understand about the fact that some of us can actually manage to do quite a lot of things by ourselves.
I don't think my boyfriend had even passed his driving test at that time, and it was me who taught him early on as well until he could afford lessons!

I too have come across men who think I must be a pushover because I’m female. Luckily I’ve had years of dealing with some male colleagues with less experience and intelligence than I have, so I can usually put a stop to that sort of behaviour pretty quickly. So much so, that OH usually delegates dealing with awkward tradespeople to me. Apparently my ‘icy demeanour’ can be very effective!
( Disclaimer, I have worked with male colleagues with vastly superior experience and intelligence, and admired them greatly!)
( Another disclaimer, I’m usually described as kind and friendly, so only icy when I feel I need to be!)

In the interests of equality, it’s not just men. I once interviewed a young lady for a health service post. As head of the service, I introduced myself, and the rest of the interview panel, a female representative from Human Resources, and a male member of my team. If she had been listening, she would have been in no doubt that I was in charge, and was my male colleague’s ‘boss’. Every answer she gave was directed to the only man on the panel, no matter who had asked the question. She didn’t get offered the job.

                    OOO err.
Im my work I never had much contact with women, it was always a pretty much male domain until about the last ten years.
We had one woman start and things all had to change, life was never allowed to be the same again.
I also was involved in doing the ordering of materials for the workshop, and that involved sorting things out with the buyer, who was female, after that it was a case of having to explain yourself all the time, why you wanted this or that, it was a simple job turned into a nightmare, I think she thought it was her money we were spending.

I think modern women are more assertive and less likely to go with the flow.
And of course you cant say anything these days because your not allowed.

I agree with what you say. I've always said I prefer a male boss to a female one. To get anywhere females have to be really focussed. My daughter as a QS entered a male dominating world, I can only imagine how she deals with rough hairy ****d workers, it doesn't bare thinking about, I couldn't do it. Whereas my nephew is a manager on the railways, laying and repairing tracks, he's such soft teddy bear, by his stature he commands quiet authority. Guess we use the 'tools' we're born with.

Sadly, it is those sort of people that give men a bad name. The mechanic that I use (local guy) is the complete opposite - he gave an estimate for a job on a friend's car (on my recommendation) that was £450 less than the BMW dealer had quoted, so my friend took his car to Martin; he got his car back and not only had Martin done the job on the catalytic converter that he had quoted for, but also fixed an oil leak and cleaned all the oil off the engine and put am new jubilee clip on a vacuum hose "because I was more or less there anyway" - - there are still some decent folks about.

Why is nothing made to last any more? We had a combination microwave that we bought when we lived in our first flat 24 years ago for 18 years. It cost a fortune when we bought it, but it paid off as it gave us excellent service. When it expired, we couldn't afford one the same, but did stretch ourselves to buy the same brand (albeit not combi) and to be honest, I hated that one from minute one. It went out with a bang about three years ago, so I was quite happy to replace it with what I believed to be a really good one... this one started blowing internal fuses late last year; it would go for a while after replacing the fuses but then blow again and always when the door was opened - so 99% it was the door switches. I've just spent a few hours (and quite a bit of blood) replacing the door switches and a new fuse and the bleedin' thing is still dead as doornail.
So, that is another new appliance required... :gaah:
