Which is what I have done. I have already been given a completion date and am waiting for a date for the men to come and remove the fire to check if it can be repaired before investing in a new one.
2nd Grump.
I am finally having my refuse collected as Assisted Collection. It has only taken me almost 3 months and 5 telephone calls to organise it. Yeah!

 

I remember years ago when we had a new front door fitted and the chap was demonstrating how to lock it. My husband tried it, then the chap said "Let's let the little lady have a go".

I gave him a look that would have felled King Kong because a. I'm not exactly little and b. I'm certainly no lady.
Needless to say he apologised and l managed to lock the door without having a fit of the vapours.

Every now and again when we leave the house, my darling husband asks "Have you managed to lock the door, little lady ?". Bless him.

 

That's awful, and I can well believe it. Us older women have a double whammy, not only are we female so therefore don't have a brain, we're older therefore most of our braincells have expired. We're obviously ripe for being taken for a ride.

 

When I went shopping for a new car @AnniD with my boyfriend at the time [later to be husband] the guy spent ages directing all the jargon and info to him. Boyfriend had to butt in and say 'it's not me who's buying it'. The guy at least had the decency to go red.
What do these clowns not understand about the fact that some of us can actually manage to do quite a lot of things by ourselves.
I don't think my boyfriend had even passed his driving test at that time, and it was me who taught him early on as well until he could afford lessons!

 

I too have come across men who think I must be a pushover because I’m female. Luckily I’ve had years of dealing with some male colleagues with less experience and intelligence than I have, so I can usually put a stop to that sort of behaviour pretty quickly. So much so, that OH usually delegates dealing with awkward tradespeople to me. Apparently my ‘icy demeanour’ can be very effective!
( Disclaimer, I have worked with male colleagues with vastly superior experience and intelligence, and admired them greatly!)
( Another disclaimer, I’m usually described as kind and friendly, so only icy when I feel I need to be!)

 

In the interests of equality, it’s not just men. I once interviewed a young lady for a health service post. As head of the service, I introduced myself, and the rest of the interview panel, a female representative from Human Resources, and a male member of my team. If she had been listening, she would have been in no doubt that I was in charge, and was my male colleague’s ‘boss’. Every answer she gave was directed to the only man on the panel, no matter who had asked the question. She didn’t get offered the job.

 

I'm one of those women who may come across as passive but I make my presence felt when needed ...

Im my work I never had much contact with women, it was always a pretty much male domain until about the last ten years.
We had one woman start and things all had to change, life was never allowed to be the same again.
I also was involved in doing the ordering of materials for the workshop, and that involved sorting things out with the buyer, who was female, after that it was a case of having to explain yourself all the time, why you wanted this or that, it was a simple job turned into a nightmare, I think she thought it was her money we were spending.

I think modern women are more assertive and less likely to go with the flow.
And of course you cant say anything these days because your not allowed.

 

I agree with what you say. I've always said I prefer a male boss to a female one. To get anywhere females have to be really focussed. My daughter as a QS entered a male dominating world, I can only imagine how she deals with rough hairy ****d workers, it doesn't bare thinking about, I couldn't do it. Whereas my nephew is a manager on the railways, laying and repairing tracks, he's such soft teddy bear, by his stature he commands quiet authority. Guess we use the 'tools' we're born with.
