This from your picture @cactus_girl appears to be a "flower bug"

 

@DiggersJo I just threw it in for free - is it a capsid bug? Not that well up on bugs! Did look it up, but did not get far.

 

It looks to me like a "flower bug" here on wiki.

 

@DiggersJo I can see the similarity although it looks a bit see-through? Maybe @Alan Clark can help?

@DiggersJo and @Alan Clark my latest guess is Grypocoris stysi or sexguttatus.

 

Could be the former, but the latter seems to be an ant? Wiki is showing this for the former...

... seems there are other flower bugs.... I'm pretty sure it was the latter that had a bite of me last year....

 

@DiggersJo camponotus sexguttatus is an ant, but grypocoris sexguttatus is my insect.

 

Ahh I see what you are saying... Size is everything, so knowing your flower what size would the bug be? Your GS is 6-7mm, a big boy! My little bug(ger) is only 3-4mm.

 

Yes it was about 6-7mm.

 

Common Mallow, growing in the spaces between the paving stones in my front garden. And honeysuckle; there is a great deal of this on one of my boundaries, and the scent is becoming very noticeable in the evenings.
