I sometimes think its part of a bigger plan to get traffic off the roads, cause total chaos and people will stop.
So where does all this fit in with all the election rubbish about "growing the economy".
Whatever colour, stop sodding up the roads if you are intending to get us out of this mess.

 

At least there was an alternative route.
Heading back from Heathrow last Friday I decided to come off the M6 at the Kendal junction and come up the coast road, big mistake. I did not know there was a road closure in place and I was only 7 miles away from where I live. So here's me thinking coming the coast road would knock 20 minutes off the journey and it ended up adding an extra 30 minutes.

The road is closed in both directions from 7pm to 5am, with an escort vehicle operating but only from 7pm to 10pm with total closure afterwards to 5am. When I arrived there at about 1ish in the morning there was over 30 other vehicles that I could see. People were already out of their vehicles saying that we would all basically have to go back and either head through the lakes or go back to the M6. I was only 7 miles away from home, but to get back I would have to go back to Newby bridge to cut across to Windermere coming through Keswick to head home, the diversion is just over 100 miles and probably would of taken me 2hr 30 minutes; Anyways the police eventually turned up and insisted they let us all through, there was no signs of a road closure until you actually got within 300 metres of it, muppets.

 

They cut the grass outside my house, and then the bloke with the blower comes along and blows it all back onto the verge, dont park your car out there, the stones and other crap will ruin your paintwork.

They even smashed a rear window where I used to work blowing stones in the air.
Nothing to do with me was the reply when the person was challenged.

 

After coming across a young Adder snake in my electric metre box on Monday I was informed by someone in the village that their dog had been bitten by one only last week while it was sniffing in the dyke.

No more strimming for me, the grass is dangerous, volunteers, anyone?

 

I won't disagree that population growth is an issue. But there is a massive difference in resource consumption in different countries. Countries with soaring populations aren't necessarily consuming more per person.

The average Kenyan or Tanzanian may have 4 children on average to a Brit or American's 2, but chances are they will not travel far in their lifetime, they eat locally and seasonally, their homes often don't have electricity, so their fuel, food and water consumption per capita is far lower.

The planet can sustain a lot more people living like that, than those with heated swimming pools, tennis courts, multiple large cars and pets, that take flights regularly.

 

Yes, I agree, but are you prepared to live like they do?

You only have to see what is happening now during the cost of living problems and a reduction in living standards, and people are not happy, nobody wants to lower their living standards.
Especially to save 1.0% of the worlds emissions.

The other thing is I bet that Kenyan family is setting their sights higher to match ours.

 

That's worthy of a French 'deviation'. They put a diversion sign up, sometimes even a 'route barrée à ...kms' sign. Fine. You follow their arrows and then you're own you're own, sunshine They've diverted you off into the (beautiful) French countryside and nary a diversion sign or even a sad, lonely arrow to be seen. Still, it's one way of getting to explore the region......
