Latest Moan From You and Me 2024

I was wondering very similar just the other day - I've got a cracker of a sore finger that I think has a bit of a skelf or shard of metal in it; I was getting a wee bit of crud out of it initially, but that stopped and since then it has swollen and swollen around the top of the finger a bit. It goes down for a day or two then builds over a day (yesterday was one of those days) to the point it gets really angry and then subsides again over the next day or so, before the cycle starts again. If it doesn't pop before long, I think I will have to try and see a doctor

 

I suppose it depends on their age - at best, some sort of community service. I think that is one of the biggest ways we have gone wrong... absolute loss of respect for others and for our surroundings. I'm that guy who cleans the street in front of the house and neighbours houses either side, but there are others in the street who simply don't care.... massive weeds growing out under walls and fences, litter lying about etc... it is a vicious circle as far as I am concerned.

 

The government were very careful not to classify it as riot - because if it was, it would mean that they were on the hook to pay for the damage rather than insurance companies and local authority budgets

 

It is not only the parents - there are some really odd views going around generally... we had a thing pop up in our local FB group the other day where someone said their son was in Boots in Ashford and a youth had come in, stolen a load of baby milk and then left without being challenged by the staff. His son had apparently seen this youth at the station shortly afterwards, with a knife, so went back to tell the Boots staff who said they would report it as this youth was a regular. This woman was giving the staff dogs abuse for not challenging this youth as were others, pulling the 'when Boots is out of money they will be out of a job and deserve it' routine.

I might have been somewhat less than diplomatic when I reminded them that Boots staff are paid minimum wage, so why would they challenge someone that is armed with a knife over a few tubs of baby formula and pointed out that it was down to the police to be dealing with the situation; another woman then laid into me, saying they must not have been reporting it and it was disgusting yada yada yada... so I informed her that they were reporting it, as they did at all the other Boots stores around us that were also seeing the same thing. And she came back... "How do you know they are reporting it? They are all useless... etc" - - she soon changed her tune when I informed her that Mrs C works as a manager for Boots in a nearby larger store, and they are putting in multiple reports every single day.

Meanwhile, another warrior waded in that it was only right that it was getting stolen because it was Boots own fault because it was too expensive and that would be some parent in need to feed their wee baby... what, six tins every day???

Not only have we gone soft on crimes such as shoplifting which in turn has bred further, worse crimes, but we've also lost our compass I think - - of all the comments made, not one was criticising the youth with the knife... not a single one.

 

do you have one of the chemists near you that can deal with minor injuries?

 

Well my goodness, I didn't think that would still be available!! We used to have a tin of that knocking about on the farm, albeit it wasn't used that often. Thank you @Tidemark, that might just be the solution to my problem

 

Lisa is sending a photo to the prescribing pharmacist at her work as they have that service, plus it saves me queuing... but, she has a feeling they don't do things like swollen digits. The really odd thing is, when we try to photograph it, it doesn't show the redness or swelling very well, nor does it show the sort of light bluey-purple tinge either. It was really, really, angry last night - yet overnight seems to have settled back a bit, so it will probably be Tuesday when it goes mental again.

I have been using Hibiscrub (well, the equine version thereof) but it isn't making any difference.
