You would think living by a golf course would be quiet. No. Before the sun comes up they sometimes get their leaf blowers out and it goes on for ages. Then the grass cutters come out, which can be tractor type ones or these special sit on ones that seem to go in any direction. The golfers are very quiet - sometimes you hear them shout "Fore!" and I do put my hands on my head just in case.

Neighbours are quiet - no leaf blowers at all.

All I did in the garden was mop up after a heavy downpour. Geranium flowers all bashed off. Now it's dark and thundering again. At least we've finally been watered. Runner beans looking sad. But I'll keep them going to harvest the beans for next year. I will wait till the pods are fully dried out as last year alot went mouldy.

Finished preparing this border for the wallflowers, put a lot of compost on they're going in behind the polyanthus.

We've been out most of the day so all I did when we got back was take the full indoor compost bin up to the outdoor one and just walked around checking on things. Found, to my amazement, that one of my pears is missing - I only had 3 in the first place! Really miffed.
The missing one was one of two on the same twig, the other one had fallen onto the grass. Searched all around but didn't find it. It's a bit big for a squirrel to pinch unless it knocked both to the ground and ate one. If so, I hope he's got stomach ache.

I went to our local garden centre this morning which has now been fully refurbished after years of decline. It’s almost on my doorstep, about a mile away, and it stocks a good range of plants at reasonable prices. There are no scented candles or horrible trinkets so just plants and garden related goods. It’s not as good as some of the others in the area but handy for emergencies, of which I have many .

Today I bought some bark and three small Thuja Smaragds. I used the bark on the circular border in my front lawn, put one of the Thujas in a container and the others on the bank in my lower garden. I’m trying to provide some extra greenery and structure there over winter as I see that part of the garden every time I come in and out of the house.

I also repainted a small section of fencing that gets full sun in the afternoon. It was showing a few unpainted margins where the panels had expanded slightly in the heat over summer. Very annoying but now solved :). No more painting this year, it’s messy and I’ve had enough!

I've removed all the foliage on the toms one to help them ripen and 2 they covered in white fly :gaah: , I want in after with the hose and blasted the toms down and everything else . Melons gone no melons for me again the cold spell seen them off . Seeded the lawn this week I've left it far to late :doh:fleeced it to help but I may have a mud patch all over winter .

Tomorrow I am off to holden nurseries taking advantage of a plant voucher I got from a show , I'll do a detour on the way home to have a look in the sale section at another GC.

@Escarpment i think thats fair comment. I live in a country area and its a myth that the countryside is quiet , unless you are in a remote spot . For example there are times of the year when the birds just dont stop singing, loudly and insistently - my neighbour raging about a cuckoo waking her every morning around 4am - let alone road or garden noise. What is unreasonable , are the actions of inconsiderate neighbours eg the fella that gets his leaf blower out daily and blows all the leaves off his property into the road either to blow back again or for someone else to dispose of , or on a fine dry day where someone lights a smoky bonfire during the day

Your neighbour is guilty of green fly-tipping there, @Robert Bowen.

Not so much what I am doing in the garden as what the spiders are. A fairly large one spun a big web against the patio door. I opened the door and, of course, the web detached itself from its anchor on the other side. Undeterred, repairs were put in hand. It has now anchored the web so I can open and close the door and the web travels unharmed with the motion, attached downwards to the ground via a sort of flexi bungee cord. :spinning: Ain't nature a marvel!

Not lot at the moment as it's currently raining. Later we'll see maybe greenhouse.
Yesterday afternoon dug up and moved to pots, the plants that might be damaged by removal of the dead larch.

I did nothing yesterday, and did an indoor job instead that I'd been putting off.
Not sure what, if anything, I'll do today. Maybe I'll get round to planting the Thalictrum and tackle that geranium in the front, as it's been getting delayed as much as the indoor job was!

I picked 2 mini munch cucumbers and 2 Telegraph Improved ones. I sat and mourned my tomato plants succumbing to blight. So frustrating!

Thank you @Golarne. I grow Thuja plicata as hedging but these caught my eye as possible worthwhile additions by their colour and shape. I know they are slow growing and will probably sit still for a couple of years but that's fine. Do you grow them?

I won't be doing anything in the garden today as it's raining. Plus I'm looking after my brother and sister in law's Labrador, Maisie, for the day while they're away for a birthday celebration down south. Maisie's not very happy about this and lay staring at the front door for a while after they'd gone. I've been distracting her with some treats :doggieshmooze:. I'm hoping it will be dry enough this afternoon for a walk. Luckily, she likes sleeping .

No chance here either , its hardly stopped since mid afternoon on Friday and set for heavy rain from now until Tuesday (for just a few hours respite) but apart from that interlude , the outlook is for rain until October so i hope to pinch an hour outside here and there as and when i can
