Aaaawww, sorry Loli. Maybe a roundy one for 2013? The pointy one seems to have got the thumbs down... :cry3:
    But it's a grand life
    if ya don't weaken.

That's rotten luck Loli, great that you'll be back (and bigger!) next year.

My first female came when there were no males to pollinate it, so I think that's why it had the pointy shape.

This is the first year I've only grown one plant, in the past I always had a second 'insurance' plant alongside which gives double the chance of getting both sexes at once. I hoped this year the single plant would grow into a monster given more space, but it didn't - due to the poor weather mainly.

Next year I'm growing two again.

Freddy; I can see how people get so involved in growing monster veg, it's a bit of fun and up till now I've only grown pumpkins for carving at halloween. This year I'm going to use the inards for pumpkin pie so it will all be worth it in the end :dbgrtmb:

A handfull of chicken poo pellets tipped into a 2 gall can and covered with water and left to disintegrate, then a capfull each of tomato feed and sea weed (not to be confused with shewee'd) fertilizer, swirled around and topped up - twice a week. But the main feed should all be in the pits they've been planted in.

It went down to 3deg C last night, with a very light frost on the lawn. I had covered my plant with a double layer of fleece but then it rained so the whole lot was soggy this morning and weighing down the leaves. Wonder if it will survive, I'll be surprised if it has.

They reckon there is going to be a early harsh winter! Start hibernating soon!

+ 3 deg was positively cosy compared to the - 2.4 deg at my plot last night. I left this themometer on the pallet that my pumkin's standing on, but outside of the double layer of mesh I put over the leaves (mine also got wet overnight, but it had lots of supports and only damaged one leaf). The pumpkin itself was wrapped in a blanket.

There doesn't seem to be any sign of damage and from the increase in girth I reckon it grew over 3 pounds yesterday. If I can just keep it alive and increasing at that rate for a dozen or so more days I just might manage to get it over the 100lb mark.

I'm now going to erect some 1 m high temporary framework around the plant so it can be well covered up overnight. I'm also filling a load of bags with fresh horse poo at the stables today to place around it and provide some heat.
